WHAT IS STEM LAB?
Welcome to the STEM Labs Home Page. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. All students at Cahaba Elementary School get a 40 minute STEM Lab one day each week. In STEM Lab, students are taught using the International Technology and Engineering Association's Standards (ITEEA) for Technology and Engineering Literacy (STEL); Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and the Alabama Digital Literacy and Computer Science Standards (AL DLCS) which are rooted in the International Society of Technology Educators Standards (ISTE).
These standards focus on science, technology, engineering and math skills and content. In our STEM Lab, students participate in many different learning experiences to achieve learning goals. Some of these experiences include: live action role play, online interactives and simulations, creating with the design process, socratic discussion, investigations, presentations, coding, gaming, races, and inquiry and research.
