Oh, The Places You'll Go!
Lesson MissionI can tell you about our school theme and how the school theme relates to our school mission.
The School Theme![]() The school theme this year is one of my favorites... Oh the Places You'll Go. Every year that I have a family member graduate from high school or college, I give them this book. "But this is a little kids book!".... you may say!
Au, Contraire Mon Frere! (This means on the contrary my brother!) Oh the Places You'll Go is about moving into new stages in life. It is about what you will be able to do and places you'll see after getting an education or accomplishing a skill. It is a book about hope and gives people of all ages inspiration for their futures. At this time, I am going to read this book to the class. As I read it, think about how this applies to you now. We will discuss this after the reading. Life Long Learning![]() So hopefully at this point in the lesson, you are inspired to learn this year! If you have noticed, our school has college flags lining the hallways. Teachers have their diplomas or information about the schools they went to posted in and outside of their rooms. Whether or not you decide in the future to go to college or go straight into a career, you will always need an education. With fast developments in technology, all American workers will have to get an education of some kind. Skills workers now have to go to career tech schools to pursue careers in construction, nursing, and computer systems, or as welders, electricians, plumbers, welders, and mechanics. Those with college degrees still have professional development - which are classes teaching you about the newest things in your field.
Moody Middle School teachers have each chosen a higher education school to promote. Fourth grade teachers are focusing on Alabama Higher Education Opportunities. These are schools only offered in Alabama or that started in Alabama such as Montevallo and Troy. Fifth grade teachers are focusing on S.E.C. schools. This means schools in the Southeastern Conference. These are various colleges within the Southeast that have a partnership because they are in the same region; such as Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Georgia. Sixth grade teachers are focusing on big schools in the U.S. Schools that are not part of the S.E.C.
All year MMS teachers will teach about the college or school he or she chose. You will learn about the college or school itself as well as college life, different colleges and schools, options in college and other than college, and how we measure our success after learning a new field or skill. We are starting this today! Are you ready? |
