Let's go over the slides together.  We will discuss what you learned in whole group.

ACTIVITY 2:
​WHAT IS AN ADVERTISING FIRM & WHAT DO THEY DO?

We are going to watch the video below in whole group.  As we watch, you will practice, your note taking skills.  Listen for the following points in the video and take notes.
  • What does an advertising agency identify in the Brand Strategy stage?
  • What are some of the major jobs at an advertising agency?  What are some of the responsibilities in these jobs?
  • What do advertising agencies do in the Brand Presence Stage?

advertising campaign:  the plan that an advertising company has for advertising someone’s business that is made up of different media types all within a central theme and utilizing one major advertising technique

advertising technique/strategy:  the strategy an advertising company uses to reach a business's target audience and/or attract new customers

agency:  a large business that provides a professional service

brand recognition:  any type of media that helps a person recognize a business

broadcast advertising:  any type of transmitted media used to advertise

budget: the amount of money that a business or person is willing to spend on a list of expenses in a given year

client: the business or company that is using your firm's advertising services  

company: a business that sells a product 

deficits or losses:  all the money you lose if you do not make enough money to cover your expenses

digital advertising:  any type of electronic media used to advertise

firm:  a business partnership that provides a professional service

marketing plan:  the written out advertising plan that includes and describes the central theme, advertising strategy, media types, a detailed budget, a presentation, and a sales pitch

​media:  ways of communicating   

media types:  the method or instrument used to advertise  

partnership: a formal arrangement in which two or more people form a business; work together to manage and operate the business; and share in the business profits and losses

print advertising: any type of media that is printed on any type of paper, large or small

profits: the money you make after you subtract all of the expenses

sales presentation: actual presentation that an advertising firm gives as they go over the components of the advertising campaign with the business or client

sales pitch: the way in which an advertising firm tries to convince a business or potential client to choose their firm to advertise with 

target audience: the group of people most likely to be interested in your product or service
Discussion Question:

Why do you think it is important for the people in an advertising agency to work as a team?  What do you think the consequences would be if they all did their own thing?

ACTIVITY 3:
​WHAT ARE ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS?

Let's look over the slideshow below.  Then we will discuss it as a whole class.
As a class, we are going to learn a very important skill using the slideshow above.  This skill is called Synthesis.  Synthesis is when you take pieces of information to create you own idea or theory.  In other words, you take pieces of information from different places and organize the information into a way you understand or you create your own idea or theory using the information.  Follow along with me as I show you how to do this. 
We are going to synthesize the information in the slideshow in order to create our own idea or theory for the question below.
