Lesson 7:
My Creative Work

Picture

THE LESSON MISSION

Picture

I can give myself credit for my own work.

CHALLENGE 1:  USING WHAT YOU KNOW

A Time Capsule

I found a time capsule in the woods behind my house with artwork inside.
Picture
A time capsule is a container filled with items intended to communicate information about the present time when discovered by people in the future.
I need your help in trying to figure out whose artwork is inside the time capsule.
ITEM 1

The Lesson Tool Box

Picture
time capsule: a container filled with items intended to communicate information about the present time when discov- ered by people in the future

credit: public acknowledgment or praise given to a person

original: new, or one of a kind

photography: the art of taking pictures

publish: to present a finished piece of work to the public
This was the first item I pulled out of the time capsule.  Who do you think drew this picture?
Picture
ITEMS 2 - 5
After I pulled out the first picture of the house, I pulled out this pictures.  Who do you think took these pictures?
ITEM 6
This was the last thing I pulled out of the time capsule.  Who do you think drew this?
Picture
WHOSE WORK IS THIS ANYWAY?
Credit is public acknowledgment or praise given to a person for their work.
Why is it difficult to know who to give credit to for these pictures?
Guess what?

CHALLENGE 2:  UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOU LEARNED

Original means new, or one of a kind.  Artists sign their original works to show pride in their creativity and to let people know who created it long after they are gone.
Look at the art below.  These works have the signature of the artists on the work so that they get the credit for their original work.

It is important to put your name on your original work so that you are the one who gets the credit and no other person can claim it to be theirs.

CHALLENGE 3:  CREATE AN ORIGINAL WORK

Original Photography
Photography is the art of taking pictures.  Each student will now create their own original photography.  To do so, we will do the following:
  1. Each person will now get a camera.
  2. I am going to show you how to use the camera.
  3. You will all take several pictures of our school.
  4. I will download the pictures you took.

CHALLENGE 4:  CREDIT YOURSELF

Creating Your Signature
Picture
Now, you need to credit yourself for your work.  When you credit yourself, you should do three things: title your work, date your work, and sign your work.  To do so, we will do the following:
  1. You will create a title for your work.
  2. You will write your signature on paper.
  3. I will scan the signature into the computer.
  4. We will add the title, today's date, and your signature to your photography.

CHALLENGE 5:  PUBLISHING YOUR WORK

Publishing Your Work
Finally, we need to publish your photographs.  Publish means to present a finished piece of work to the public.  We are going to publish your work by creating a Cahaba Elementary School Photography Gallery.  To do so, we will do the following:
  1. You will chose their favorite photo to be displayed in our online art gallery.
  2. I will download everyone's original works to our online photography gallery.
  3. Everyone can can view the gallery by clicking on the button to the right or using the Work Gallery Tab at the top of the page.
