WE ARE DIGITAL CITIZENS
LESSON 3: WE ARE RESPONSIBLE DIGITAL CITIZENS
THE LESSON MISSION
The pictures that you just looked at all had rings. The rings all get larger and larger. We use this idea of rings to illustrate responsibility. Students have three rings of responsibilities. They have a responsibility to self, a responsibility to family and friends, and a responsibility to the community. Each ring represents a different person or group of people to which you have responsibilities.
Let's read about what each circle in the model represents.
MAKING A CONNECTION
Let's watch the video below about the Rings of Responsibility.
With your shoulder partner, discuss and answer the questions below. Only one person has to submit the assignment for the pair.
EVALUATING DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP
A digital citizen is a member of a worldwide community linked by the internet. Digital citizens have responsibilities to themselves, their friends and family, and the larger community.
Now, let's evaluating the rings of responsibility. You are going to complete a series of polls regarding online responsibilities. Each poll will give a statement. You must determine which ring the statement falls into on the Ring of Responsibility. For example, if the poll read, “I never reveal my full name online,” you would select the innermost ring, the Ring of Self. This is because people protect themselves by not revealing private information online.
I will read each poll aloud. Answer honestly. Do not worry about what your neighbor thinks. We will go over the results after each poll.
