LESSON MISSION

Picture
  • I can follow the policies, procedures, and rules of S.T.E.M. Lab.

ACTIVITY 1:  WHAT IS AN ASSESSMENT?

Picture
An assessment is a test or activity that gives you the information you need to decide whether a goal was accomplished.  Some assessments test your knowledge and ask you to write answers on paper.  Some assessments require you to perform a task that shows you can do a skill, such as a driver's test.  Some assessments are games.

Picture
Games are fun assessments.  They push you to do your best because you are competing against others.  Games encourage you to take academic risks.  Academic risks are when you do something that you would normally be afraid to do, in order to learn.  Games allow you to show your knowledge and skills.  One great thing about games is that they allow you, the student, to know whether you have gained the knowledge or developed the skills you were supposed to.  The best thing about a games assessment is that even if you did not gain the knowledge or skills that you were supposed to, you can play it over and over against yourself until you do accomplish your goal.

Today, we are going to have a game assessment to see if you know and can follow the policies, procedures, and rules of S.T.E.M. Lab.  The game is called, This Is How We Roll Jeopardy.

ACTIVITY 2:   HOW TO PLAY THE GAME

Picture
This Is How We Roll Jeopardy is played a lot like the game of Jeopardy on T.V.  You will have 5 categories of topics.  Each topic has 5 questions.  Each question is worth a certain amount of points.  You will be divided into teams and each team will get a buzzer.  I will select the first question of the game.  If your team knows the answer, press the buzzer.  The first team to press the button, locks all the other teams out from buzzing in.  Your team has 15 seconds to answer the question.  If you answer correctly, you get the points that the question was worth and you select the next category and question.  If you answer incorrectly, I will tell you that you are incorrect and release the lock out to allow another team to answer.  If they answer correctly, they get the points and get to choose the  next category and question.  When all the questions on the board are answered, the game is over.  The team with the most points wins.

ACTIVITY 3: THIS IS HOW WE ROLL JEOPARDY

I will project the game on the screen, but when you are at home, you can click on the Jeopardy icon below to play the game on your own or with friends.

ACTIVITY 4:  ASSESS YOURSELF

Picture
So, how did you do?  Do you know the policies, procedures, and rules of S.T.E.M. Lab?  Can you follow them?  If you did well in the game, congratulations.  I am very proud of you.  If you did not do well, do not worry.  You can play the game as much as you like at home until you do.  I will help you and your classmates will also help you.  After all, we are all in this together.  You will spend more time with the people in this room than you will spend with your families at home.  This makes us like a family, and families help and support each other!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
