LESSON 7: DESIGNING A LOGO

  • I can design a plan for creating my client's logo.
  • I can create a logo for my client.
  • I can write a synopsis explaining my logo to my client.

STEP 1:  LOGO SLIDES

With your team, go back over the Logo Slides.  Then click on the google classroom icon.  Enter in our class code and enter the Next Top Firm Classroom.  Click on the Logo assignment.  Answer the questions in the assignment to help you plan and design your logo.  You can always see your work by going to Google Drive.  Type in Classroom in the Search Bar.  Choose the Classroom Folder.  Inside will be a Next Top Firm Folder.  All your work is here.
Follow the steps below to plan your logo.

  1. Click on the Google Classroom Link and enter in our class code.
  2. Open the Classwork Tab at the top of the page.
  3. Under Logos, select Step 1:  Design Your Logo.
  4. Read the instructions and click on the attachment to open it.
  5. Answer the questions and submit when you have finished.
  6. You can always see this document by going to your Google Drive, type in Classroom.  Select the classroom folder, select Next Top Firm.
  7. Now, go to Step 2 below.

STEP 2:  CREATE YOUR CLIENT'S LOGO

Now that you have a plan, you can create your logo.  Follow these steps to create your logo.
  1. Go Back to your Next Top Firm Google Classroom.
  2. Open up the Step 2 Create Your Logo Assignment.
  3. Open up the Google Drawing Attachment.
  4. Now use the icon to the right to go to Labelmakr.
  5. Choose an image.  Either Copy and paste the image to the Google Drawing Attachment or, do a screenshot and upload the image to the Google Drawing.
  6. Create the logo in the Google Drawing and submit it in Google Classroom.

logo:  a symbol made up of text and or images that help us identify a name brand

Letter Mark Logo:  is when a company uses its initials as its logo

Word Mark Logo:  when a company uses its name with a special font and colors as its logo

Pictorial Mark Logo:  when a company uses a picture as its logo 

Abstract Logo: when a company uses some kind of geometric form or shape in combination with a color scheme as its logo

Mascot Logos:  when a company uses a mascot, or illustrated character that represents the company as its logo

Combination Mark:   when a company uses  two or more logo types together in one logo 

Emblem Logo:  when a company uses letters or words inside a symbol like a badge, seal, or crest, or  icon as its  logo

visual double entendre:  an artistic technique that combines two images into one

illustrating motion:  when an images is drawn to look like it is moving or has moved

negative space:  the space around and between an image

psychology of color:  the idea that certain colors make people feel certain emotions

texture:  an artistic technique where an image looks like it might feel a certain way

original design:  a design created by one person or company and is unlike any other logo

STEP 3: SYNOPSIS

Now you will type your synopsis.  Below you will see an example of a logo and synopsis to help you get started.  Remember, in the synopsis, you explain how you created the logo and why you created it the way you did.  Look at the highlighted words in the synopsis.  These highlighted terms show that you addressed all the points from your Logo Plan in Step 1. 

You must include these points:
  • The type of logo you used
  • The design principles you used
  • The artistic technique you used. 
  • Notice that the advertising firm's name and partners' names are on the synopsis and it is titled.

Get Started by Following the Steps Below!
  1. Open up the Next Top Firm Google Classroom and choose STEP 3: SYNOPSIS. 
  2. Open up the attachment and write your synopsis.
  3. Submit your synopsis.

​You are now done with the logo for your client.
